IBM acquisition of Cognos. Can be?

Pro: IBM needs a CPM solution. Developing it “in-house” is too long. But “Blue Giant” won’t suffer without it much. It’s faster to buy complete solutions. Alphablox was bought only for couple of projects.
Contra: IBM tends to be Linux-oriented. Cognos 8 BI is Linux-friendly. Enterprise Planning and Controller are MS-tied to bones
Pro: Cognos is still slightly falling, but that’s an industry trend, I suppose.
Contra: IBM is not Oracle: no taste for M&A. PWC aquisition lead to unclear results.

Cognos sucks. If IBM buys Cognos, then that would be like buying cow pile sandwiches for 20 dollars a piece and then trying to give them away.

And what BI vendor doesn’t suck?
BO? It’s propagating it’s ETL, and IBM has already got DataStage. Why pay for what you already have?
    MSTR? No planning components, sorry.
Hyperion, maybe. It seems as nice as Cognos.
    Any others?
All MS-tied guys (Panorama and such) are of no choice, imho.
