Selling CPM solutions

October 18th, 2006

When BO acquired SGL, another planning vendor, after SRC, I was asking myself:

How these guys will be selling their products? As one product (that the very CPM-circle), or as a number of products.

Now Craig Schiff tells us that BO tried "cpm-bundle" selling with SRC and decided to sell BI and Enterprise Planning separately, by different sales teams. And that's a huge step back in my opinion. Istead of competing on CPM-market, with Oracle, Cognos and Hyperion, they choose to compete with whole lot of BI-vendors and all niche planning-only vendors (like Aplix, OutlookSoft and etc).

So I guess -- integration of products failed up to moment, and BO tries to earn some money now, trying to integrate in background.

And the dark shadow of Ms PerformancePoint server grows.
